When I maximize the ad, I try to save more than 60% (I would probably save more, but I usually buy a bit of meat, produce, or milk and OJ that hamper my total savings - On days without those I could get closer to 70 or 80%)
Well, since we are moving, I figure that I should take advantage of the double days while I can, as long as I'm getting the items at a really good deal because 50% off is still a freaking good deal, as long as I can't get the items somewhere else cheaper. So the things I bought, I got for 50% or more off (Except the I didn't have a coupon for the milk, the 2 OJs or the bleach) and a couple of things less than 30cents.
I only bought things with coupons tonight that I couldn't get cheaper than anywhere else.
For example: I had a coupon that saved me $1.00 off Oreos with a gallon of milk purchase and we were slam out of milk entirely. The gallon milk was a better deal tonight than 2 half gallons, so we got the gallon and I used the Oreos coupon. Double day made it $2.00 off and they were 2/$6. So I paid $1.00 for them!! The cheapest I have ever bought Oreos in the past is $2.50.
Brad did awesome tonight, too. He was nice enough to come with me after dinner and he found a great deal. I had a coupon that was $1.00 off 2 Kraft dressings. Well, the regular sizes are still pretty expensive and usually an "off 2" deal isn't that great. EXCEPT....that Brad saw the smaller versions down below on a shelf. They were on sale 2/$3 and my $2.00 coupon made them $1.00 for 2 or 50 cents each. Not bad at all. We can use them in smaller doses, so less waste and they were cheap - Isn't he cool!?! And I almost didn't keep these coupons because of them being the "off 2" kind! Who buys salad dressing for 50cents? We use the Italian dressing for marinading chicken (right, Mom!?) so this was a great deal for us.
Including everything I bought here's the breakdown:
The total bill was: $99.88
I saved: $49.90
Total out of pocket tonight: $49.98
Savings: 50%
Brad got 5% off so we saved a total of 51%
With only the items I had coupons for: 56%
So this wasn't my best night ever, the goal tonight was not the usual "maximize the ad"...There really wasn't anything in the ad that I wanted or needed. So I just decided to take advantage of what I could get at a good deal since it was double day.
Check out Brad's awesome 50 cent salad dressings!
In addition to the oreos being cheap, I know I got these:
Jar of French's for 29cents
Mandarin oranges for 30 cents ea.
Sure deodorant for 69cents ea.
Bottle of French's brown mustard for 70cents
V8 boxed soups ea 99cents
Popcorn 87cents ea
Pasta 87cents ea box
So things weren't free, but dang cheap!

You did great! I also used that Kraft coupon on the little bottles. There was also a pizza coupon for Digiorno's out there for $3 off the pizza if you bought Kraft dressing. That was my best deal last week :)
Do you know if any groceries do doubles up where you'll be? Are you buying non-perishables that you can take with you?
I love that you have Brad in on it too! lol...You have trained him well :)
